YouTube's Super Bowl commercial buzz list dominated by automakers [w/videos]

YouTube's Super Bowl commercial buzz list dominated by automakers [w/videos]

After Sunday's big game, YouTube will be the place to watch every commercial that you missed when you left your seat for an emergency guac refill or, as we say in Cleveland, took the Browns to the Super Bowl. That makes YouTube the nation's water cooler on Monday, and it's got some preliminary stats to share in the lead up to kickoff. As you know, Super Bowl advertisers, particularly automakers, like to endlessly tease their big budget commercials in the weeks before the game, many times revealing them outright days in advance.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut

While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible. If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York.

Ireland could allow 'moderately' drunk driving

Ireland could allow 'moderately' drunk driving

On one side you have Ireland's measures against drunk driving: a maximum allowable blood-alcohol level of .05 percent (the legal limit is .08 in most states in the US), and statistics like the lowered limit and checkpoints having "decreased road deaths by 42 percent in the last four years." On the other side you have councilor Danny Healy-Rae of County Kerry who is worried about some of his elderly constituents being isolated in rural areas: Healy-Rae says that the pub is the only place to socialize in some villages, and without public transport and any way to get home after a few pints, some elder villagers end up staying home every night fo

How and why Nissan nearly killed off Infiniti

Launched in 1990, Infiniti was expected to be Japan's answer to BMW (Lexus would end up chasing Mercedes-Benz). Yet things went awry almost right out of the gate. Overlooking the fledgling automaker's now infamous early marketing campaign, its product line over the past twenty-four years has been a roller coaster ride of strong hits (Q45, FX35 and G35) and frustrating misses (M30, I30 and QX4). In a recent interview with Ward's Auto at the Detroit Auto Show, Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer revealed that the company's luxury brand was almost cancelled by CEO Carlos Ghosn as unnecessary.

Eating out on your own is a torture, especially if you view eating as a social activity. And if you live on your own, chances are you spend your dinner while watching television or looking at your smartphone because you want that “sense” of interaction. But those lonely dinners may just become more comforting. Japan-based company Miso Soup Design is set to launch an ingenious new product called “Anti-Loneliness Ramen Bowl” (I didn't make that name up). Unlike ordinary noodle bowls, this one comes with a built-in iPhone dock so you can Skype your friend, or your mom, while slurping that semi-salty broth.

Toyota settles first wrongful death suit related to unintended acceleration

Toyota's sales seem to have rebounded from the unintended acceleration issues from 2009 and 2010, but the automaker is far from done dealing with this situation. Following a settlement worth up to $1.4 billion for economic loss to affected vehicle owners, Toyota has settled rather than going to trial in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from an accident in Utah in 2010 that left two passengers dead. This isn't the first case in which Toyota has settled, but it was the first among a consolidated group of cases being held in Santa Ana, CA.

Barrett-Jackson 2013: Odds and Ends from Friday's Festivities

While the big-ticket items sold at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale usually hit the block on Saturday, Friday often brings with it a few interesting finds. This year was no different. With an assortment of vehicles ranging from an original 1969 Chevrolet Camaro COPO with a 427-cubic-inch V8 and four-speed manual transmission to a 1929 Ford AA Custom Popcorn truck, you never can tell what's going to show up at Barrett-Jackson. It's impossible to miss a bright tangerine Willy's Roadster, and we could hardly pass up the opportunity to watch one of the infamous Unique Performance Eleanor replica cars cross the auction block.

First production 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray draws $1.1 million bid for charity at Barrett-Jackson [UPDATE: w/video]

Barrett-Jackson has a long and storied history with the Chevrolet Corvette. For instance, back in 2008, Chevrolet auctioned off the very first of its new Corvette ZR1, earning a cool million bucks, and just last year the first 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible crossed the auction block for $600,000. For the 2013 event, Chevrolet brought along the very show car we all fawned over at the Detroit Auto Show – the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Bidders got to look at this car as they fought for the right to order the very first C7 that rolls off the showroom floor, and they'll get to pick the color and options.

RideApart defends lane splitting on motorcycles

Three devoted motorcyclists at RideApart have put together a video that goes soup-to-nuts through the practice of lane splitting (called "filtering" in the UK) – where motorcycles are ridden safely in between the cars in traffic. It's illegal in 49 states, California being the exception, and in numerous countries. The riders say that lane splitting is safe, it aids the flow of traffic and having increased freedom of movement gives them more control of their own safety when being around cars in traffic.

When it comes to Windows Phone, it's safe to say that most minds turn to either Nokia or HTC these days. Well if you're looking for a bit more variety, it seems that you might be able to add LG to that list because according to a report by The Korea Times, it seems that LG is interested in returning to the Windows Phone scene with a Windows Phone 8 handset of their own. For those who might remember, LG attempted to release a Windows Phone 7.5 device called the LG Fantasy which was said to be making its way onto Sprint's network, but unfortunately that did not happen and we're not sure why LG decided to cancel their plans for the device.

Forget about all of those expensive hand-carved, marble top coffee tables that are being sold at an overpriced figure at showrooms across the country, only to have a 80% discount slapped on it a month after you saved up a whole year for that coffee table. Here is something from Sean Regan and Aubrey Cohen, where it took a total of 6 months to carve it out. Touted to be extremely sturdy, it is a throwback to the Star Trek Enterprise tables that was previously done. The top and bottom half which sandwich the glass have been bolted together, so that even if you accidentally bumped it while walking, it will still remain sure.
