New server cooling tech promises “Unlimited Density”

New server cooling tech promises “Unlimited Density”

A new liquid cooling technology for servers is getting attention through a test deployment at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2). According to the manufacturer, Flometrics, the “Cool-Flo” system relies on an outdoor cooling tower and indoor pump and can be deployed at rack level and direct-to-the-chip. Flometrics claims that the system is so efficient that it can allow data centers to achieve “practically unlimited density”, lower CPU temperatures by up to 30 degrees Celsius and reduce overall power consumption by 25 to 30 percent.

Ford may have spilled the beans about its 2013 Mondeo in Amsterdam a few weeks ago, but the Blue Oval stand here at the Paris Motor Show is the first place that we've gotten to see the sedan in the metal. The European sibling of our Ford Fusion looks trim, angular and attractive in its auto show debut. (It looks just like the new Fusion, let's be honest.). - All-new Mondeo makes world debut; striking silhouette informed by new global design language.

BlackBerry App World to sell music and movies, open to BB 10 app submissions on October 10th

In addition to revealing new details about its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 OS, RIM used today's BlackBerry Jam keynote to make an announcement about App World. The company just revealed that in addition to applications and games, the store will sell music, movies and TV shows - a move that brings it more in line with rival stores like Google Play and Apple's App Store. That should please App World's 80 million subscribers (a nice little figure RIM dropped in its keynote just now). Another stat: there are currently 105,000 apps in the store, with 3 billion downloads logged since the store's opening.

Great news for those waiting anxiously at the door for their UPS / FedEx delivery. well, for those awaiting a Verizon iPhone 5, anyway. We've already broken down the differences between the trifecta of iPhone 5 models, and it seems that the one VZW is hawking is a real gem for travelers. Aside from handling Verizon's LTE waves just fine, the nano-SIM slot will also accept cards from any other GSM carrier worldwide. In other words, AT&T nano-SIMs will get you onto its HSPA+ network, and T-Mobile nano-SIMs will play nice as well.

It's becoming a tradition of sorts for the small carrier to release devices made by the Chinese company, and their partnership seems to be going well. The ZTE Engage will arrive on October 2, and will be yours if you agree to part with no more than $249.99. You won't need to sign a long-term contract to get it at that price.

. IOS 6 has been a mixed bag for Apple (AAPL) so far. Overall, the new software offers some great refinements compared to earlier releases, but a few pain points have soured consumers' response. The most notable among them, of course, is Apple's awful new Maps app. But there's still plenty to like about Apple's new mobile software, and beyond the big things that Apple pointed out while introducing iOS 6 over the summer, there are also tons of little refinements worth looking at.

Schematic of creating a space-time crystal. In a googol of years or so, scientists expect the universe to enter a state known as “heat-death,” where there's no thermodynamic free energy remaining and everything's stopped moving. Staying true to the theme of its earlier commercials, Samsung's new ad mocks those waiting early in line for the iPhone 5, calling specific attention to the iPhone's lack of NFC and its controversial new Lightning connector. Throughout the commercial, viewers get to listen as actors posing as Apple fans obsequiously describe the phone's “mind-blowing” features - like a headphone jack on the bottom of the phone, and an all-digital connector (“what does that even mean?”).
