Sony's New Tablet Leaked from Internal Slides

A German news site has published what appears to be Sony's next-generation tablet. Mobiflip claims that leaks about the so-called Sony Xperia tablet have been obtained through internal slides. In plain sight, the new tablet appears thinner and lighter than the Sony Tablet S. It is cased around a splash-proof aluminum body.

Lenovo unveils toughened ThinkPad X131e for education, hikes price to $499

Lenovo must have struck a chord with schools looking for some rough-and-tumble ThinkPads, as it's bringing out the ThinkPad X131e even while teachers are still drafting their course plans for the fall semester. The new model keeps that better-than-military ruggedness in an 11.6-inch laptop while freshening the choices of AMD E-series chips or their Intel-made Celeron and Core i3 challengers. Dolby Advanced Audio even gives the speakers boost when it's not a matter of all work and no play. Educators, in turn, get the usual options for extended support or customizing the laptops with a little school pride.

Despite reports that Mini would be dropping the catchy name that christened its original concept in favor of the more literal Countryman Coupe moniker, none other than Dr.

It's been awhile since its last update but it looks like Google has pushed out some new improvements to its iOS app. According to reports online, the updated Gmail features smoother animation and scrolling on the iPhone and iPod Touch, as well as the ability to save picture attachments to your photo library (yay!). As usual, we get some bug fixes though it wasn't mentioned what they were and unfortunately there's still no support for multiple accounts.

The power failure hit around 1pm local time "without warning" according to the electric company. The incident follows another major outage the day prior, which affected around 300 million people.

A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, and a smartphone by any other name would just be…er, as smart. I am not quite sure, but if you do follow what Sony Mobile offers closely ever since they broke off from the Sony Ericsson partnership, here we are with their latest candidate to go through the hallowed halls of the FCC – the Sony Xperia advance. It is also known as the ST27a if model numbers are your thing, while those living in North American would have realized that it has already undergone the FCC's rigorous testing procedures under the guise of the Sony Xperia go.

2012 Ford Focus 1.0-liter EcoBoost

A Sneak Peek At Our Three-Cylinder Future. Remember the good old days, when compact cars were powered by six-cylinder engines. Yeah, neither do we.
It's been a long time since a mainstream brand offered anything other than a four-banger in its econoboxes, and for good reason. While a half-dozen cylinders might have been necessary to adequately motivate Ford Falcon, Dodge Dart and later Chevrolet Cavalier models, any carmaker will tell you that modern four cylinders make more than enough power to propel even today's jumbo-sized compacts.

But wait just a minute. What did we say? More than enough power.

Apple's plans for its next iPhone refresh may be getting very tangible, very quickly. It all started when iMore heard that Apple was preparing to hold an event unveiling the new hardware on September 12th, with a launch the following week on September 21st. Although the relative newcomer to the iPhone release date rumor game is still building its track record, that claim may have just gotten some extra meat: AllThingsD is joining in the chorus and touts its own sources pointing to an event in the same timeframe.

It's a curious thing to have gold signify the low-end, but that's just what Huawei's done with its G series smartphone line. That bottom-dwelling, budget tier, first announced at this past Mobile World Congress, has already seen a couple of category cousins come out into the open (see: Vodafone's G 300 and T-Mobile's G 312), so color us unsurprised to find yet another single-core, Googlefied device crop up at the FCC. Tetris lights: add color to your room

If you're a fan of Tetris and you want to spice up your living room with some new lights, these officially licensed Tetris LED blocks will do the trick. Feature all the shapes you've come to know and love over the years, these lamps are even stackable so you can set them up anyway you want (and no, they won't disappear when you form a complete line). It wasn't mentioned how the blocks are powered, but they turn on whenever they're stacked (you need a minimum of two) and you'll need to disassemble them to turn them off. A pretty cool product that's bound to start conversations whenever somebody walks into your room for the first time.

Kia misses profit estimates, blames marketing costs, strikes

Bloomberg reports Kia has missed analyst profit estimates for the second quarter after net income slipped to $965 million at current conversion rates. On average, analysts estimated the South Korean automaker would bring in somewhere around $1.1 billion, though Kia did see its revenue increase by 8.4 percent. The automaker said its less-than-estimated profit results came down to increased spending as the company strove to market its new Pride subcompact and K9 luxury sedan (a model that will be known as Quoris in other markets). Kia also saw its operating profit increase by 18 percent, falling just shy of industry estimates.

Odds are that we've all had a speaker system which can't take the heat: turn up the volume and there's an unintentional dubstep remix as the waaahs and wubwubs of distortion and vibration overtake whatever we actually meant to hear. Croon Audio is only just getting into speakers, but its Original system makes clean sound the order of the day: along with the retro, anti-distortion fiberboard design, the Bluetooth audio box has isolation cones at the corners that Croon hopes will leave any shake, rattle and rolling to Big Joe Turner and Bill Haley. That's good news for a small enclosure with two 15W drivers and a Class D amp inside.

Toyota builds 200 million vehicles after 77 years in business

Two hundred million of anything is a lot, and the point here is that Toyota has built a lot of cars. The automaker announced this week that sometime in June its 200,000,000th vehicle rolled off the assembly line. Toyota's feat took the company 76 years and 11 months. It has been in the car business since August 1935, but it wasn't until 1972 that Toyota managed to produce its first 10 million vehicles – some 36 years that were, of course, interrupted by World War II. In the past four decades, however, Toyota has grown at a tremendous rate, with its next 190 million vehicles taking just 40 years and five months.

When internet mega retailer Amazon kicked off its fiscal year this past spring with $13.8 billion in net sales, the prognosis for the quarter ahead was dour, to say the least. At the time, the company projected its Q2 2012 performance would see an operating loss of $40 million to $260 million versus Q2 2011, as well as a slight down tick in revenue at $11.9 billion to $13.3 billion quarter to quarter. Well, the numbers are in and it looks like the forecast was right on the money. The Seattle-based outfit posted $7 million in net income for the quarter, a year over year loss amounting to a whopping 96 percent decrease.
