Google+ Updated In The Android Market – Adds New UI And Features

With the upcoming launch of Ice Cream Sandwich some Google apps are already seeing a transition to the all new Android 4.0 UI (love it or hate it) and Google+ is no exception. The app was updated today in the Android Market and features the usual bug fixes as well as the revamped ICS UI. Also added is the ability to actually sign-out of the app (something I've been asking since the app's inception). You can also look forward to battery life improvements and an easier to navigate UI complete with the ability to now add people to a circle, from a circle profile.

Mac Pro: Could Apple Kill It?

Mac Pro: Could Apple Kill It?

Rumors are swirling about the possible death of the Mac Pro, the desktop Mac that is not really getting a lot of love from the buyers, or from Apple itself if you think about it. It is the line that is the slowest to receive updates, and when they do, it's not all that exciting anyway.  The reason is simple: most of Apple computer sales  are made of laptops, then iMacs probably come in second leaving the Mac pro a distant third.

Shadowgun works with a PS3 controller on a Galaxy S2

We've previously seen Shadowgun played on a “TV console” thanks to the help of an Acer Iconia tablet and an Xbox 360 controller, and now some folks have managed take it up a notch by making it run on a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Shadowgun is designed for Tegra devices) with a PlayStation 3 controller wirelessly over Bluetooth. Obviously root access is needed to get it to work, but judging by the demonstration video - the game runs very well on the Galaxy S2 as well. The PS3 controller is a bit buggy over Bluetooth (it sends extra keystrokes for some reason) but it's something that you can get used to.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus US release right after European rollout?

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which has been thought to be a Verizon Wireless exclusive, will first be released in Europe followed by what could very well be a Stateside rollout. An official image of the Verizon model did leak in recent times, but the latest rumors claim that November 17th would be the European release date, while Verizon as well as other US carriers, if it is not an exclusive handset, will only launch later next month.

. When BGR Editor-in-chief Jonathan Geller first reviewed the original Motorola ATRIX 4G in February, he called it “one of the best smartphones to ever be available from AT&T.” Now I have that phone's successor, the Motorola ATRIX 2. It offers a few improvements over the original, including support for faster data speeds, a slightly larger display and a beefier camera.

Rogers, Canada's largest mobile carrier, is reportedly getting ready to launch two new Android smartphones this week - not long after it introduced the HTC Raider with LTE. The new handsets are the Samsung Galaxy S Glide and the Motorola RAZR - and yes, we knew they'd come to Rogers, but we didn't know when exactly.

AUO flexible paper comes with battery pack

At one point in time, getting digital displays to be flexible proved to be quite a challenge for engineers, but it has been some time since they have already managed that feat – and now the challenge lies in making sure such flexible displays will be able to display far better resolution in addition to making sure the resolution count and color, brightness, et al, are improved constantly. AUO might be onto something new with a flexible thin-film photovoltaic (PV) battery being attached to the back of flexible electronic paper (e-paper), where it was recently showcased at FPD International 2011.

myPlex makes streaming your media simple, gives you one queue to rule them all

Plex is one of the more popular solutions to the problem of how to get all that (legally downloaded, of course) media sitting on your home PC to your various devices for consumption. But, like many of its competitors, getting the whole shebang set up isn't always the easiest task. The company's new myPlex platform aims to solve this conundrum, and adds a few welcome features along the way. Now, setting up a server or a client is as simple as logging in to your Plex account - no matter how many of either part of the media-streaming equation you may have.

Sadly, Apple restricted this feature to iPhone 4S hardware. However, some enthusiastic folks have worked hard to develop a port that brings the iPhone Siri interface to your older iPhone and the iPod Touch 4G. Here's the step-by-step procedure to get things accomplished but before you start we suggest you take a closer look at what comes after the dot.
In simpler terms, the following procedure is a guide to only get the Siri GUI on your iPhone, but not the actual voice-based assistance that iPhone 4S touts.

The K-Bow from Keith McMillen is a Bluetooth enabled bow for the violin, viola, cello and bass, which is constructed of Kevlar and graphite. While the K-Bow may look similar to a normal bow, it's actually a real-time controller that will allow you to manipulate the sounds coming out of the stringed instrument for which the bow is being used. The bow has sensors for grip, bow tension, force, angle, and more. The sensor data is used with the included software to translate to MIDI or for live looping, reverb, etc.

How Arduino got its start: a behind the scenes revelation

Plenty of tales have cropped up through the years focusing on the roots of Arduino - a tiny circuit board that holds a special place in the heart of every modern-day DIYer - but a recent expose from the folks at Ieee Spectrum has a behind-the-scenes look that'll impress even historians. Massimo Banzi is the name, and Bar di Re Arduino is the place. The former is hailed as an Italian cofounder of the project he dubbed Arduino in honor of the latter, and in time, four more folks would join him to create what would become a complete gamechanger in the universe of homegrown electronics.

I'm all about my Big Band music. I have an Mp3 player full of it.  I stream it via Live 365 Internet Subscription radio.  I even have vinyl records of old recordings, and I have stuff older than that.  I can't always play my records and in my area; Big Band music cannot be found on the radio.  So I lean on my Mp3 player and cell phone.

With the advent of Mp3 players and playing music through your cell phones, the need for external speakers has arisen.  Because let's be frank, I don't care what kind of souped up cell phone you have; the speaker on it sucks.

With Activision's Modern Warfare 3 expected to be released on the 8th of November, it seems that there are reports that some of the discs have been stolen from its shipping warehouse in Fresno, California and has already been making its way around the internet as well as being delivered to some users' homes as pirated discs. The good news is that whoever stole the disc from the shipping warehouse only managed to get their hands on Disc 2 of the two disc set, which means that users will not be able to play the game as they will require Disc 1.

If you're hoping to surf your favorite Flash-based websites on your PlayStation Vita, it looks like you won't be able to - at least not at launch. The Japanese magazine, Famitsu, recently posted an FAQ for the PlayStation Vita, and in its browser specifications, it doesn't list Flash support. However it does run Javascript 1.7 and HTML5, which puts the browser on par with what's available on iOS. While it doesn't come as a big surprise to many, it'll be interesting to see Sony's stance on the web media format, as it could possibly release an update to enable it in the future.

Government Censorship? Google's Got Your Back

There's a lot of crazy stuff going on in the world right now. Look no further than the Occupy ___ (fill in the blank) protests taking place around the world. While I don't want to get into any political debates (this is after all, only an Android blog), many protesters have been capturing videos of police brutality using their Android powered handsets and quickly uploading them onto YouTube. If you think the U.S. government and various law enforcement agencies are happy about this, well — they're not. Apparently, Google has received over 757 content removal requests for items on Google's servers from services like YouTube.

The prototype Nokia Kinetic Device, including its display, can be flexed across both the vertical and horizontal planes - with bending and twisting motions controlling the interface. If you bend the screen towards yourself, it acts as a selection function, or zooms in on any pictures you're viewing. In music mode, you can navigate, play and pause with the tactile interface.
