New server cooling tech promises “Unlimited Density”

A new liquid cooling technology for servers is getting attention through a test deployment at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2). According to the manufacturer, Flometrics, the “Cool-Flo” system relies on an outdoor cooling tower and indoor pump and can be deployed at rack level and direct-to-the-chip. Flometrics claims that the system is so efficient that it can allow data centers to achieve “practically unlimited density”, lower CPU temperatures by up to 30 degrees Celsius and reduce overall power consumption by 25 to 30 percent.

Nokia is looking to release a new low-end Lumia smartphone for the Chinese market. Called Nokia Lumia 510, the new device should slot beneath the Lumia 610 in the company's smartphone portfolio. PPNMC NOAO is a poorly named but still awesome electric race car (video)

It reportedly took Pole Performance Nevers Magny-Cours just six months to develop this electric race car before it set an official record on the Grand Prix track at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France. Known as the NOAO, which is supposedly pronounced "Know How," this car boasts twin electric motors capable of pushing out 227 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

BlackBerry App World to sell music and movies, open to BB 10 app submissions on October 10th

In addition to revealing new details about its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 OS, RIM used today's BlackBerry Jam keynote to make an announcement about App World. The company just revealed that in addition to applications and games, the store will sell music, movies and TV shows - a move that brings it more in line with rival stores like Google Play and Apple's App Store. That should please App World's 80 million subscribers (a nice little figure RIM dropped in its keynote just now). Another stat: there are currently 105,000 apps in the store, with 3 billion downloads logged since the store's opening.

BlackBerry 10 beta 3 released, shows revamped UI

At a special event yesterday RIM unveiled the BlackBerry 10 beta 3 running on the company's new test device, the Dev Alpha B. The UI look and feel of this latest BlackBerry 10 build is what RIM will be putting on its final BB10 devices in early 2013. And according to those, who've tried it, it really has the potential to grab people's attention.
Let's start with the new UI features. Starting with the new beta, to wake the device, you simply swipe from the bottom of the screen. Then, you are welcomed with the traditional batch of homescreen panels.

However, there's a twist.

Great news for those waiting anxiously at the door for their UPS / FedEx delivery. well, for those awaiting a Verizon iPhone 5, anyway. We've already broken down the differences between the trifecta of iPhone 5 models, and it seems that the one VZW is hawking is a real gem for travelers. Aside from handling Verizon's LTE waves just fine, the nano-SIM slot will also accept cards from any other GSM carrier worldwide. In other words, AT&T nano-SIMs will get you onto its HSPA+ network, and T-Mobile nano-SIMs will play nice as well.

Acer's Iconia Tab A110 Jelly Bean tablet available in the UK now

Acer's latest affordable tablet, the Iconia Tab A110, has been released in the UK today, giving customers an alternative to the Asus-made Google Nexus 7. Ebuyer is selling the A110 for £179 (€225 or $290). The tablet weighs 390 grams, runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and features a 7 inch display with 1024 x 600 pixels, quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, HDMI, 2MP front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, and MicroSD card support.
Acer didn't say when the Iconia Tab A110 would be released in other countries.

Not content at stopping with its recent European tour, Google Play Books has made the trip to Japan and brought back a handful of new features. In addition to support for reading Japanese books in a vertical, right-to left layout, Mountain view now lets users tap on names of geographical spots within text and see them pinned to a Google Map alongside the option to find more information using Larry Page's favorite search engine or Wikipedia. A freshly added translation feature takes user-highlighted words and phrases and spits them out in the reader's language of choice.

Apple's A6 iPhone 5 SoC integrates triple-core GPU

After an analysis and high-resolution diffusion images taken of the A6 die, UBM Insights believes that the chip is being manufactured by Samsung in a 28 nm process. AnandTech further showed an image that suggests that Apple is using three PowerVR SGX 543MP3 GPU cores at 266 MHz. There was no information whether the ARM cores are based on ARM's Cortex-A15 or the previous Cortex-A9. However, Apple promised twice the performance of the preceding A5, which is a hint that the switch to the A15 has been made.

In addition to unveiling all those laptops, HP just announced a boatload of peripherals. Of the bunch, the most compelling might be the NFC-enabled Touch to Pair Mouse, which, as the name suggests, can be paired with another device simply through tapping. (Good thing lots of computers currently have NFC, right?) If, by chance, you don't have NFC on your laptop - and you probably don't - the mouse will function just fine as a regular old Bluetooth device. Look for it in November for $39.

It looks as if the Mini stable could get a little more crowded. Inside Line reports that Mini's parent, BMW, may be considering a number of new models, including yet another CUV, a sports car, and a four-door. The additions, if they're all greenlit, would bump the Mini line to a total of 10 variants. According to Harald Kreuger, a recently appointed brand board member, the company is also considering a new model positioned above the current Cooper.

Samsung has unveiled a new dual SIM touchscreen phone, called Champ Neo Duos GT-C3262. Like the other dual SIM Champ handsets (and unlike the Galaxy S Duos, or the Pocket Duos), the Champ Neo isn't a smartphone. It's a very affordable handset for first time touchscreen users. Dual SIM capabilities (with "True Hot swap") aside, the C3262 features a 2.4 inch QVGA display, ChatOn, 3.5mm headset jack, VGA rear camera, MicroSD card support (up to 32GB), and a 1,000 mAh battery.

We caught Samsung preparing its latest salvo against Apple last week, and now the company's next big attack ad is finally here. Mobile security company Intrepidus Group presented evidence during the EUSecWest security conference potentially identifying a major flaw in at least two US transit systems. Creating an Android app named "UltraReset" and using it in tandem with an NFC-enabled Android phone (a Nexus S, in this case), security researchers Corey Benninger and Max Sobell were able to reset and reuse - free of charge - transit access cards in both San Francisco's MUNI system and New Jersey's PATH system.

RIM's first BlackBerry 10 smartphone revealed in photos and on video

. Images and a video of Research In Motion's (RIMM) first BlackBerry 10-powered smartphone were published by multiple websites on Monday, shedding new light on RIM's next-generation smartphone. The upcoming BlackBerry handset, which is code-named “London” and was initially set to launch in the third quarter this year before being delayed until early 2013, features a full touchscreen and an 1,800 mAh battery. Other details are not clear at this time.

Canon EOS 7D MK II, 70D, 700D rumored for 2013 announcement

It wasn't too long ago that after all the rumors, Canon officially introduced the EOS 6D which seemed a bit of an in between the EOS 5D and the EOS 7D. That being said, we're sure that there are Canon fans out there who are curious as to what the camera manufacturer could put out next. Granted it's a bit early, plus Photokina has since passed, but according to some early rumors, it seems that come 2013, we can expect to see Canon introduce the 7D MK II, EOS 70D and the 700D.

Samsung announces plans for Galaxy Note II US launch

Samsung has just announced its Galaxy Note II phablet in the United States. Unsurprisingly, Sammy is teaming up with all major US carriers including Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular to reach as many users as possible. Samsung is saying that all of the carriers will have individual announcements for the device, but it should be available by mid-November. The US version of the Galaxy Note II will be packing either HSPA+ 42 or LTE radios, depending on the carrier.

Other than that, the US Galaxy Note II remains unchanged.

The Apple Lightning to USB Cable has Landed

Shortly after the iPhone 5 was available for pre-order, I went ahead and ordered up a pair of extra Lightning-to-USB cables from the Apple Store so I would have some extras for the office and travel.  I got them today, before the anticipated Friday, September 21st iPhone 5 release date. The size difference is astonishing.
The box it came in is typical Apple.  Plain white with a picture on the cover.  Price is currently $19 USD via the Apple Store.  The cable itself measures about 41″ tip to tip.
